What is friends of the city?

Friends of the City is a project that was dreamed up in high school. We wanted to sell T-shirt’s and give percentages of the profit to scholarships for kids in the city! We weren’t able to bring it to life just because of the busyness of school. Fast forward to about 10 months ago we were having a conversation with some friends at lunch one day and they pushed to bring the dream back to life. Friends of the City is committed to producing apparel that represents Waco. With the promise of giving to scholarships for local high school graduates. The scholarships are specifically for those in their second year of college and up. There’s a reason for this, though.

Getting to college is hard, but staying there is even harder. The years that follow after freshman year come with the challenges of living on your own for the first time. This might not seem like an issue to some but to those who’s parents make a little “too” much, or the kid who’s a DACA recipient, or those who come from single parent households, living on your own is a really difficult thing to do. We believe that this shouldn’t stop these kids from finishing what they started at the university they chose.

Friends of the City is committed to doing what we can to help. Not sure how big the impact will be, but those who come from Waco should believe that the city that helped raise them still has their back.
